07 Dec FDCC First Grade continue their winning form against Waneroo
The Port Boys remain undefeated in the WA Premier Cricket First Grade competition after another comprehensive performance against Wanneroo Districts Cricket Club.
Talented all rounder Chris Chellew was once again the star of the show in the A grade sides victory as he finished with an undefeated century as the Port Boys made 254 in reply to Wanneroo’s first innings total of 140. Chellew’s superb 100 not out came from 174 balls and included 16 boundaries and was well supported by Jake Carder (54) and Joel Crosswell (38) on a difficult Kingsway pitch. This solid batting performance followed veteran Jamie Heath’s incredible bowling figures of 4/9 on the first day of the fixture as the roos won the toss and elected to bat.
The second day of the fixture then presented an opportunity for the Port Boys to complete a rare outright victory as they had 40 overs to bowl Wanneroo out for a second time. The boys fell agonizingly close as Wanneroo ended at 8/88 with Jamie Heath backing up his first innings dominance with figures of 4/33.
Meanwhile, the FDCC second grade side was disappointingly defeated in a classic match at Stevens Reserve. Wanneroo won the toss and batted in the searing heat on the first day of this fixture and posted a massive total of 375 on a flat Stevens’s deck. Ben Moore performed solidly with the ball as he ended up with 6 wickets on a tough day for bowlers. Fremantle then fell agonizingly short in its rain interrupted run chase as they ended up with a total of 8/363 in reply. There were a number of great individual efforts as Jordan Buller (89), Matt Micale (84), Anthony Collova (75) and Ben Moore (56) all contributed with the bat in the 2nd grade sides respectable loss.
The third grade boys suffered a defeat as their total of 178 was chased down by Wanneroo who ended up making 268. Sam Collins (43) was the best performer with the bat, whilst old man Justin Vanderhoek bowled well with figures of 3/34.
Finally, the FDCC fourth grade side remains at the top of its ladder after a complete victory. The 4’s won the toss and set a total of 258 as two FDCC young guns combined to put on a masterful 130 run partnership in an encouraging sign for the future of our club. In both of their first senior matches for Fremantle, talented Under 17s players Jack Camarda and Bayley Holman showed class and composure beyond their years. Holman was undefeated at the end of the Port Boys innings as he made 111 not out in what is sure to be one of many senior hundreds for the young man. Meanwhile, Camarda was dismissed for 88 as he tried to increase the run rate for his team. All of the FDCC community couldn’t be happier for both of these youngsters and is excited for what the future holds. The fourth grade side then continued their good form on the second day of this fixture as they bowled Wanneroo out for 132 (W. Abell 3/24) and then made an entertaining 3/88 off 11 overs in our second innings thanks to some fireworks from Matt Voorn (50 off 22 balls).
The Port Boys face Bayswater-Morley in their final fixture before the Christmas break over the next two Saturday’s. The A grade side is playing at home and we would love to see all of the FDCC community at Stevens Reserve to support the boys and join in the Christmas festivities.
