Senior Round 4 Match Report

4th Grade

In the first two-day fixture of the season, the fourth grade lined up against the undefeated University Cricket Club. Fremantle, lead by interim skipper, Benoit Gaffney, won the toss and went into bat. The loss of a few early wickets the team were in a bit of trouble at 2-18. Lewis Harris (79) steadied the ship, batting through most of the innings before losing his wicket at 7/172. A few cameos and a tail wag from Dylan Alvaro (32), Tate Saxon (22*) left the Port with a final score of 9/231 from their 80 overs.

Returning for day two, Fremantle started well taking a few early wickets, all while keeping the run rate under control with limited bowling options. Benoit Gaffney (1-31 from 10 overs) proved a steady option in the middle overs after his first went for 11. Kian Doyle (3-17 from 12 overs) took a broke through at the beginning of each spell and continues to show his prowess as a genuine wicket taker. Lucas Johns (3-61 from 17 overs) controlled one end of the ground most of the afternoon and supported by Tate Saxon (2-37 from 13.2 overs) and Andrew Morisey (1-32 from 13 overs) who were fantastic options throughout the day. Several dropped catches and missed run outs throughout the day kept University in the game, however the result went the way of the Port with another grinding win and leaving the side in 3rd place after four rounds.
