Welcome Tom Abell

Welcome Tom Abell

Fremantle DCC is pleased to welcome Tom Abell as our overseas player this season. Tom joins Freo on the back of a highly successfully summer for his county. The 21 year old right handed opener registered his maiden first class hundred against Hampshire, eventually being dismissed for 131. His talent has long been recognised having been named Wisden School Cricketer of the Year in 2013 for his 1,156 runs at an average of 193 for Taunton School. His 11 innings that season consisted of 4 50’s and 7 100’s. He was named Somerset’s Second XI Player of the Year in 2014, the year he made his First Class debut. In his debut innings he fell just 5 runs short of being the first Somerset born batsman to register a hundred in his maiden innings for 80 years. He has continued his impressive start to First Class notching up eight 50’s to go with his hundred at an average of just under 40. He is no stranger to some of the Fremantle side. He plays his club cricket at Taunton CC and has played alongside Chris Greenwood and Chris Davenport, opening with the latter and averaging over 149 for the first wicket in the 2014 season. We look forward to seeing Tom in a Freo shirt and hope he enjoys his time with us.
