We won the toss and elected to bat. The coaches decided to open Green with Saxon this round to keep our options open for different scenarios during the season. Both of the boys batted really well early but it was Saxon once again who played the dominant role and was middling them from the start. Saxon (28) unfortunately took on a close in fielder and a direct hit saw him depart while Green stayed on. Mathews dropped down to #4, came in and made a quick fire 24 before slashing at a wide one and nicking off to 1st slip.
Green finished with a good 46 after he tried to lift the run rate then Cardaci (21), Page (26) and Oliver (13) got the score to 181 from our 50. Even though we left runs on the park and finished at least 20 runs shy of our team goal, we were very confident that we had enough to defend.
The opening bowlers kept it tight but Claremont seemed to be going ok without being damaging then our first change bowlers of Oliver (3/24) and Sellahewa (3/29) stepped up and with all of our fielders, took the game away from the opposition in very quick time. Saxon chimed in with 2/29 and Bow with 1/11 and CN finished 9/134 (50).
Another team performance in the field by the boys, standing by their commitment to defend any score we set and they did it emphatically. Congratulations to all of the lads for the fourth step in our 2023/24 season journey.
