Mount Lawley vs Fremantle

U17

Fremantle travelled to Breckler Park where Magpie swooping season was in full force. Fremantle had to work hard to get the job done in there away fixture at Mount Lawley, whilst they got the chockies they certainly didn’t have the game entirely on their terms. On day 1 Mount Lawley started strong with a near 100 run opening partnership. At the halfway marker had the Port boys under real pressure facing the possibility of chasing a huge score the following week. Then in came Kibria and Sweetman to slow the rate down equally supported by the Skipper Riley Walker and Kersley. At the end Port were chasing 181 for the win, week 2 started well with Day and Hallows making a solid start, then in came Ratter and Sweetman to steady the ship with a strong partnership.

Sweetman went on for a match winning innings to post the win for Fremantle with a cameo at the end to a very underrated bat in Jamie Richardson to get the boys over the line.

Mount Lawley 9/180 - Kibria 2/24 of 8 overs, Walker 1/23 of 8 overs, Kersley 1/23 of 7 overs week 2 Fremantle 7/189 Sweetman 83 of 91 balls Ratter 28 of 72 deliveries, Richardson 18 of 20 balls. Fremantle got the runs needed with 11 deliveries to spare in what was described as a tricky chase. Well done to Coach Matt Walker and Brad Day with 2 from 2 to start the season off.

With both our older age juniors undefeated the next challenge being against a strong Centurion team with U15s hosting at Stevens Reserve and the U17s taking the trek up the freeway to Joondalup.

Good luck to both teams and let’s hope we can keep this winning record stick.
