Senior Round 3 Match Report

Senior

Fourth Grade

Starting the season with two wins from as many games, the 4s boys were looking to keep the train rolling against a strong opponent in Midland-Guilford. Some late changes up the grades resulted in a senior debut for young Tate Saxon and the return of a Freo favourite, Mel King. Losing the toss and being sent into bat, Port veteran Benoit Gaffney picked up where he left off last week, scoring freely before losing his wicket for 22. Aaron Beecroft (27) consolidated with Lewis Harris (40) taking the score to 1-96 before a middle order collapse left us in a difficult spot at 6-119. Chad Mathews (20) and Dylan Alvaro (21) provided the team with some handy runs, closing our innings at 7-164.

Midland-Guildford had their nose in front through most of their batting innings. Several dropped catches and poor fielding proved costly during the middle overs when the match was in the balance. At 3-123, Andrew Morisey’s inspiring second spell, taking three wickets in as many overs created an opening for the Port and it was game on. Kian Doyle (2-18) supported by the debutant Tate Saxon (1-29) took the game down to the last over. An inside edge off the third last ball of the day raced down to the vacant fine leg boundary and Midland-Guildford were able to snatch the win in a closely fought match.
